Date(s) - 10/27/2018
10:00 am - 4:00 pm
Saturday, October 27, 2018 is Fern Day at the Rhododendron Species Botanical Garden.
On this, the last day of the RSBG Fall Foliage Festival and Plant Sale, Hardy Fern Foundation’s curator, Jo Laskowski, will give a presentation and lead a tour of the Foundation’s Stumpery.
Jo’s short presentation, “Fern Sex for Dummies,” will help you visualize the complex process that is typical of most fern reproduction. And, as with most disciplines, a specialized vocabulary exists for this. Once you get the basic idea, maybe the words “prothallus,” “sorus,” or “indusium” will roll off your tongue, too!
An open question-and-answer period will follow, so come with your burning questions!
The talk will be at 1 pm, and the tour will be at 2:15 pm.
The Fall Foliage Festival and Plant Sale begins Saturday, October 20 and ends on Saturday, October 27, with daily hours of 10am to 4pm. During this annual event gate admission is suspended–it’s a great time to get in to the Garden to enjoy all its fall color, and maybe pick up a new plant or two (including ferns) from the RSBG Nursery.
