The pacific northwest is often thought of as soggy, rain soaked region but as anyone who lives in the Puget Sound knows…once July hits the rain is gone for several months. Join us for a look at developing a garden in the urban setting of Seattle with the goal of being conscientious about watering. What ferns can tolerate such a garden and which plants make great companions to said ferns? Del will draw on experiences in his home garden as well as the Miller Botanical garden to discuss gardening with ferns and companion plants.

Del Brummet got interested in plants through hiking and building trails in high school. While working on a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology at the University of Washington he worked in a lab and a project focused on seed propagation research. Currently Del works as the head gardener at Elisabeth Miller Botanical Garden and when he isn’t watering he is learning about or communicating about plants.
